Top 10 Best GPS Fleet Tracking Systems: 2026 Reviews

GPS tracking used to be simple: a dot on a map. Now every vendor sells a platform with dash cams, maintenance alerts, fuel reports and driver scores, and the price page says "contact us." It's easy to end up paying for features you never open.
So we kept this list practical. We ranked ten GPS fleet tracking systems on what fleets actually care about: published pricing where it exists, core tracking features, and how well each one works with an ELD if you run trucks that need one. Prices and details were checked on vendor sites in October 2026. Where a vendor only quotes, we say so.
Quick Picks
- Best for large fleets: Samsara
- Best for trucking safety: Motive
- Best for customization: Geotab
- Best for service fleets: Verizon Connect
- Best published price for small fleets: Linxup
- Lowest published monthly price: One Step GPS
- Best budget GPS plus ELD bundle: HOS247 TeleTrack
- Best for mixed and international fleets: Teletrac Navman
- Best for small business support: GPS Trackit
- Best for long haul enterprise: Omnitracs
How We Ranked Them
We looked at five things:
- Price transparency. Can you see what it costs before talking to sales?
- Core tracking. Live location, history, geofences, alerts and reports.
- ELD integration. Is there an FMCSA registered ELD on the same platform, or a clean integration?
- Hardware and contract. Plug in or hardwired, contract length, hardware cost.
- Ease of use. App and portal usability, based on app store ratings where available.
We didn't test every device in a truck for this list. Where we report ratings, they come from public app stores, and pricing comes from vendor pages.

ELD Integration: Why It Matters
If your trucks need an ELD, you have two choices: one platform for both, or separate GPS and ELD systems.
One platform
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Omnitracs and HOS247 TeleTrack all offer GPS and ELD together. Benefits:
- One device per truck in many setups.
- Driver logs and location in the same portal.
- IFTA reports built from the same GPS data.
- One bill and one support line.
Separate systems
Some fleets keep an existing ELD and add a cheap GPS tracker. That can work, but you'll manage two portals, two contracts and two sets of hardware. It also means IFTA data may come from one system and hours from another.
Watch out for one thing: ELD hours of service location data is deliberately limited to about a 1 mile radius during normal driving for driver privacy. It's not a substitute for real GPS tracking.
What To Look For
Update frequency
How often does the map refresh? Some trackers update every few seconds, others every minute or longer. For dispatch, faster is better. For basic tracking, a minute is fine.
Alerts
Look for speeding, idling, geofence entry and exit, after hours use and maintenance alerts. Make sure you can control who gets them so they don't become noise.
Reports
Check for trip history, idle time, mileage by state, stops and fuel use. Export to a spreadsheet should be easy.
Hardware
Plug in trackers are quick to install but easy to unplug. Hardwired units are more secure but need installation. Heavy trucks may need a 9 pin or 16 pin harness.
Contract terms
Ask about length, auto renewal, early termination and hardware return. Get it in writing.
What GPS Tracking Saves
Tracking pays off in a few predictable places. It's worth estimating these before you buy so you know what to measure afterward.
Idling
Idle reports show which trucks sit running. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates a heavy duty truck burns about 0.8 gallons of fuel an hour at idle. At the EIA's on highway diesel average of $6.276 a gallon for the week of October 19, 2026, that's about $5 an hour. Cutting just one idle hour a day per truck can be worth well over $1,000 a year per truck.
Unauthorized use
After hours and weekend alerts show when vehicles move outside work time. Many fleets find this alone pays for tracking.
Billing disputes
Arrival and departure times from GPS settle detention and delivery disputes fast.
Theft recovery
A tracked truck or trailer is easier to find. Some insurers offer discounts for tracking, so ask yours.
You can run your own numbers with our ELD ROI calculator, which includes idle reduction.
Driver Privacy
Drivers are more likely to accept tracking when they know what's tracked and why. Explain it up front, focus on safety and efficiency rather than punishment, and set clear rules for personal use. If you add driver facing cameras, put the policy in writing.
Questions To Ask Before You Buy
- What's the total cost per vehicle per month, including hardware and installation?
- How long is the contract, and what happens if I cancel early?
- How often does location update?
- Does it include an FMCSA registered ELD, or integrate with mine?
- Can I export my data if I leave?
- What does support look like, and when is it available?
Our Verdict
For large fleets that want everything on one platform, Samsara and Motive lead, with Geotab the best choice for fleets that want to customize. Verizon Connect suits service businesses.
For small fleets, the published price options are the easiest place to start. Linxup at $25 a month and One Step GPS at $13.95 a month cover tracking well. If you run trucks that also need an ELD, HOS247's $35 ELD TeleTrack bundle is one of the lowest cost ways to get both from a single vendor.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does GPS fleet tracking cost?
Published prices we found in October 2026 ranged from $13.95 a month at One Step GPS to $25 a month at Linxup per vehicle. Enterprise platforms are quote only.
What's the best GPS tracker for a small fleet?
Linxup and One Step GPS publish clear pricing. If you need an ELD too, HOS247's ELD TeleTrack bundle combines both for $35 a month.
Can my ELD replace a GPS tracker?
Not fully. ELD hours of service location data is limited to about a 1 mile radius for privacy. Many ELD vendors offer tracking as a separate feature or plan.
Do I need a contract for GPS tracking?
Not always. Linxup, One Step GPS and HOS247 all list no contract options.
