Geotab vs Verizon Connect: 2026 ELD & Telematics Comparison

Illustrated title graphic reading Geotab vs Verizon Connect: ELD & Telematics Comparison

Geotab and Verizon Connect are two of the longest running names in fleet telematics. Both track a huge number of vehicles. Both offer ELD compliance. But they're built and sold in very different ways, and that difference matters more than any single feature.

Geotab is a platform you buy through a reseller, configure to your needs and extend with add ons. Verizon Connect is a more packaged product sold directly by a single big company. Which approach suits you depends on your fleet, your team and how much setup you're willing to take on. Here's how they compare, with app ratings and registration data checked in October 2026.

Pricing

Neither publishes list prices. Geotab's price depends on the reseller, the GO device plan and any add ons. Verizon Connect quotes by fleet size, term and features.

Because Geotab goes through resellers, two Geotab quotes can look quite different. That's not necessarily bad. It means you can shop resellers for better pricing or support. Ask each reseller what's included: hardware, installation, training and who you call when something breaks.

With Verizon Connect, you deal with one company. That can make quoting simpler, but there's less room to shop around. Ask about contract length, hardware and price increases at renewal.

ELD Compliance

Geotab Drive

Geotab's ELD runs through the Geotab Drive app paired with a Geotab GO device. FMCSA lists Geotab Drive Cloud ELD on GO6 through GO10 devices. Geotab also has registered versions that run on factory telematics in Ford, Freightliner, International, Mack and Volvo trucks, which is useful if your fleet buys trucks with built in hardware.

Geotab Drive rated 4.3 on Google Play and 4.2 on the App Store when we checked, both from about 2,000 ratings or more. That's a solid score for a compliance app.

Verizon Connect Reveal ELD

Verizon Connect's main ELD app for Reveal customers is Reveal ELD Logbook, formerly Fleetmatics Logbook, registered on Xirgo XT 6300 series hardware. It also has the WorkPlan and HOS ELD, formerly from Telogis, registered on several devices.

The Reveal ELD Logbook app scored much lower: 2.5 on Google Play from about 1,930 ratings and 1.6 on the App Store from about 450 when we checked. App ratings aren't everything, but a gap this wide deserves a hard look in a trial. Ask Verizon Connect what's changed recently and let your drivers try the app.

Telematics

This is where both platforms earn their money.

Geotab

Geotab's strength is data. GO devices collect detailed engine, location and driving data, and MyGeotab turns it into reports, rules and alerts. You can set up custom rules, build dashboards and pull data into other systems through its API and software development kit.

The Geotab Marketplace adds partner solutions for dash cams, trailer tracking, maintenance, fuel management and more. That's powerful, but it means you're assembling a system, and support for add ons may come from the partner rather than Geotab.

Verizon Connect

Verizon Connect Reveal offers GPS tracking, routing, maintenance, driver behavior scoring, fuel reports and dash cams in a more packaged form. Many features are ready to use out of the box, which suits fleets without a dedicated telematics person.

Verizon Connect also offers field service tools like scheduling and dispatch, which helps service fleets that mix trucks, vans and technicians.

Integrations

Geotab is generally the more open platform. Its API and marketplace make it easier to connect to other systems. If you have specific software you need to integrate, or an in house IT team, that's a point for Geotab.

Verizon Connect integrates with common business tools and offers its own suite of fleet and field service products. If you'd rather keep everything with one vendor, that's a point for Verizon Connect.

Support

With Geotab, support usually comes from your reseller first. A good reseller is a big asset. A poor one can make the platform feel harder than it is. Ask for references from fleets similar to yours.

With Verizon Connect, support comes from Verizon Connect directly. Ask about support hours, response times and whether you'll have a named account manager.

Hardware And Installation

Geotab GO devices plug into the vehicle's diagnostic port, and many fleets install them in a few minutes per truck. Heavy trucks with a 9 pin or 16 pin connector need the right harness, which your reseller should supply. If you buy trucks with factory telematics, Geotab's OEM integrations can mean no extra device at all.

Verizon Connect hardware varies by product and vehicle. Some devices plug in, while others are hardwired or include camera installs that need a technician. Ask who installs, who pays and how long it takes per vehicle.

In both cases, ask what happens to hardware at the end of the contract. Leased devices usually have to be returned, and unreturned units can carry a fee.

Data Ownership And Exports

Before you sign, ask how you can export your data if you leave. You'll want your ELD records for at least six months for compliance, plus any history you use for maintenance or IFTA. Ask about:

  • Export formats for logs, trips and reports.
  • How long data stays available after cancellation.
  • Whether API access is included or costs extra.

Who Should Choose Geotab

  • Fleets that want customization and deep data.
  • Companies with an IT team or a strong reseller.
  • Fleets buying trucks with factory telematics from Ford, Freightliner, International, Mack or Volvo.
  • Operations where driver app ratings matter.

Who Should Choose Verizon Connect

  • Service fleets that need dispatch and field service tools.
  • Fleets that want a single vendor for everything.
  • Teams without a dedicated telematics manager who want features ready out of the box.

Questions To Ask In Your Demo

  1. What's the total cost per vehicle per month, including hardware and installation?
  2. How long is the contract, and what are the early termination terms?
  3. How does the ELD app handle disconnects?
  4. What does roadside data transfer look like?
  5. Who supports add ons?
  6. How do you handle price increases at renewal?

Testing Both

Run a pilot with three to five trucks on each, if the vendors allow it. Have drivers use the ELD apps for real loads and a mock roadside inspection. Pull reports your office uses most: IFTA, idle, maintenance. Score each system on what matters to you before you talk price.

What About Smaller Fleets?

Both platforms target fleets that want full telematics. For a small trucking operation that just needs compliance, a published price ELD may make more sense. See the best ELD for owner operators and Samsara vs Motive for other options in the full platform space.

Verdict

Geotab is the better pick for fleets that want flexibility, data and integrations, especially if you have a strong reseller. Its ELD app also scored much higher with drivers when we checked.

Verizon Connect makes more sense for service fleets that want dispatch tools and a single vendor, as long as the ELD app works well for your drivers in a trial.
