Top 7 Best ELDs With IFTA Reporting: 2026 Comparison

Illustrated title graphic reading Top 7 Best ELDs With IFTA Reporting: Comparison

IFTA quarter end has a way of sneaking up. Suddenly it's late April and you're digging through a shoebox of fuel receipts and trying to remember whether that run to Memphis went through Arkansas or Missouri. An ELD with IFTA reporting can take most of that pain away by tracking miles by state automatically.

Not every ELD does it, and the ones that do don't all do it the same way. Below we explain how ELD based IFTA reporting works, then compare seven options on price and how they handle mileage and fuel. Prices and features were checked on vendor sites in October 2026.

Who Needs IFTA

The International Fuel Tax Agreement applies to qualified motor vehicles that travel in more than one member jurisdiction. Generally that means a vehicle used for business that has two axles and a gross vehicle weight or registered weight over 26,000 pounds, or three or more axles regardless of weight, or a combination over 26,000 pounds.

Carriers file quarterly returns with their base jurisdiction. Returns are due on the last day of the month after each quarter ends: April 30, July 31, October 31 and January 31. You'll need to keep supporting records, including trip mileage and fuel receipts, for four years.

How ELD IFTA Reporting Works

The mileage part

An ELD with IFTA tools uses GPS to record when the truck crosses state or province lines. It then adds up miles driven in each jurisdiction for the quarter.

There's a catch worth knowing. The location data in ELD hours of service records is intentionally imprecise. The ELD rule limits it to about a 1 mile radius during normal driving and about 10 miles during personal conveyance, for driver privacy. A good IFTA module uses more precise GPS tracking for mileage. If an ELD claims IFTA reports but only uses HOS location data, ask how it calculates state line crossings.

The fuel part

Fuel purchases come from driver entered or scanned receipts, or from a fuel card integration. Fuel card integrations are the most reliable, because they import the gallons and location automatically.

What it doesn't do

Most ELD IFTA tools give you miles and gallons by jurisdiction. They don't always calculate tax due or file the return for you. Blue Ink Tech says plainly that its IFTA reports provide in state miles and fuel tracking but don't calculate state tax rates. You'll still enter the data into your base jurisdiction's return, or hand it to whoever files for you.

The Top 7 ELDs With IFTA Reporting

1. HOS247 ELD Plus: Best low cost option

HOS247 includes IFTA reporting on its ELD Plus plan at $25 a month per vehicle, as well as on its TeleTrack bundles at $35 and $40. The cheaper ELD Compliance and ELD Track plans don't include IFTA. There's no contract, and the logging device is free if you pay for a year or $79 if you pay monthly.

Good for: small fleets and owner operators who want IFTA without enterprise pricing. See our HOS247 ELD review.

2. Blue Ink Tech BIT ELD: Best for simple fuel receipt tracking

BIT records odometer readings at each state line crossing and prompts drivers to enter fuel receipts when they fill up. Drivers can scan receipts in the app. IFTA reports are part of BIT Full Service, which Blue Ink Tech says is included with the hardware subscription. The ELD page lists $40 a month or $400 a year with no contract.

Good for: drivers who want receipts captured on the road rather than collected at quarter end.

3. ELD Mandate Bundle A: Best bundled hardware price

ELD Mandate's Bundle A lists $22.95 a month and includes ELD hardware and software with HOS and IFTA. The vendor offers monthly, annual and 3 year terms.

Good for: fleets that want hardware bundled into one monthly fee.

4. Motive: Best for growing fleets

Motive includes IFTA reporting in its fleet platform, with automatic state mileage from its vehicle gateway and fuel card integrations. Pricing is quote only.

Good for: fleets that also want AI dash cams, maintenance and a single platform. See our Motive ELD review.

5. Samsara: Best for large fleets with integrations

Samsara's platform includes IFTA mileage reports by jurisdiction. It also integrates with a long list of fuel card and back office systems. Pricing is quote only.

Good for: larger fleets that need integrations and deep reporting. See our Samsara ELD page.

6. Geotab: Best for customization

Geotab's MyGeotab platform includes IFTA reporting, and its marketplace offers add ons from partners. Geotab sells through resellers, so price and support depend on which reseller you use.

Good for: fleets that want flexibility and have someone to manage the setup.

7. Verizon Connect Reveal: Best for mixed fleets

Verizon Connect's Reveal platform includes IFTA reporting alongside GPS tracking and its ELD logbook app. Pricing is quote only.

Good for: fleets with a mix of service vehicles and trucks that need tracking for all of them.

Accuracy: What To Check

IFTA audits look at whether your reported miles match your records. An ELD can help a lot, but only if the data is clean. Here's what to test during a trial:

  1. Compare to your odometer. Total miles for a week should match closely.
  2. Check state line crossings. Pick a trip and confirm the miles by state look right.
  3. Watch for gaps. If the device disconnects, miles can go missing. Look for days with zero miles when the truck ran.
  4. Check fuel entries. Gallons and jurisdictions should match receipts.
  5. Export the report. Make sure you can get it as a file your accountant or filing service can use.

Tips For Cleaner IFTA Reports

  • Use a fuel card integration if your ELD supports one. It cuts down on lost receipts. Our best fuel cards for truckers guide covers options.
  • Have drivers scan receipts right away instead of saving them for the end of the week.
  • Review monthly. Catching a gap in month one is easier than at quarter end.
  • Keep everything for four years. Store exports and receipts together.

Is An IFTA ELD Worth It?

For a single truck owner operator doing a few states, the time saved might be a couple of hours a quarter. That's still worth a few dollars a month for most people. HOS247's ELD Plus is $6 a month more than its basic plan, which is $72 a year for automatic state mileage.

For a fleet of 20 trucks crossing a dozen states, it's a much bigger deal. Manual IFTA prep for that fleet can take days. An integrated system turns it into a report you review and file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all ELDs include IFTA reporting?

No. Many offer it only on higher plans. HOS247, for example, includes it on ELD Plus at $25 a month but not on its $19 plan.

Will my ELD file my IFTA return?

Usually not. Most ELD IFTA tools give you miles and fuel by jurisdiction. You or your filing service still complete the return.

When are IFTA returns due?

The last day of the month after each quarter: April 30, July 31, October 31 and January 31.

How long do I keep IFTA records?

Four years.

Is ELD location data accurate enough for IFTA?

The hours of service location data is limited to about a 1 mile radius for privacy. IFTA modules typically use more precise GPS tracking, so check how your ELD calculates state miles.
